Located in the north bank of southeast bend of Fuhai Lake and built around the 3rd year of Qianlong’s reign, Wonderland on Fanghu Islet is one of the 40 sceneries of Yuanmingyuan and one of the most spectacular architectural complexes in Yuanmingyuan. Wonderland on Fanghu Islet was originally the shrine for the God of the Sea, with the architectural idea from the artistic concept of “a jewelled palace in elfland's hills” in Taoist school. This scenery was a temple garden as well with over 2000 figures of Buddha and more than 30 pagodas in 9 buildings and multistoried pavilions in the middle and behind.
