The Magnanimous World, one of the paintings for the 40 sceneries of Yuanmingyuan drawn in the 9th Year of Qianlong’s reign

Located in the west bank of Rear Lake and built in the late period of Kangxi’s reign, the Magnanimous World is one of the 40 sceneries of Yuanmingyuan. With water surrounded and fishpond excavated, this islet is the best place for emperors to feed and appreciate golden fish. Emperor Daoguang often accompanied the empress dowager to stroll about, appreciated fishes and had dinners.
